Warning DOES contain spoiler so don't read until after you've seen the movie.I just watched this last night on DVD and really enjoyed it.
MIRAMAX FILMS has, for many years, been the most reliable source of films aimed at mature audiences (adults over age 11), but following the Weinstein Brothers hissie-fit with Disney which left their Miramax behind and created the Weinstein Company, the combined output of both falls considerable short with Disney's Miramax still delivering the better product.Pity the poor Weinsteins.
Despite the renewed interest in movies about magicians thanks to the success of the recent "The Prestige" and "The Illusionist", as well as the presence of two famous stars and a child actress who was Oscar-nominated for another film she made the same year, "Death Defying Acts" had only a limited theatrical release in a few countries and drew little attention. You will know why if you happen to see it - although the production is fairly lavish, the film feels somehow "small" and restricted.
